Lady Owls Drop CCC Opener at Eastern, 91-83

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Olivia Sprague scored a career-high 29 points helping Oregon Tech cut a 15-point Eastern Oregon lead to five in the final three minutes, but the host Mountaineers outlasted the Lady Owls, 91-83 at Quinn Coliseum.

EOU (4-1, 1-0 CCC) had an 83-69 lead with five minutes remaining – but Tech responded with a 14-5 run, including a 3-pointer from Kaitlyn Wright and 3-point plays from Sprague and Maddyson Tull, to pull within 88-83 with 90 seconds left. The Owls had two chances to make it a one possession game, but were unable to convert and the hosts sealed the victory at the foul line.

Sprague added five rebounds and four assists for the Lady Owls (4-3, 0-1), her eighth-straight game in double-figures and her third 20-plus point game of the season. Tull scored 16 points with seven rebounds and Wright tallied a career-best 12 points in the loss.

OIT started quickly, as a 3-pointer from Sprague capped a 7-0 first quarter run to give the visitors a 5-point edge, but Sailor Liefke answered for the Mounties, scoring 15 of her team-high 20 points in the opening half, as EOU rallied to take a 44-32 lead to the break.

Beverly Slater had 18 points and Haley Robinett added 17 points in the win for Eastern.

Tech returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. (MST) tip-off at College of Idaho.
