Owls Stay Perfect with Win over Evergreen State

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— Oregon Tech improved to 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a 2-1 win over Evergreen State College (0-5, 0-2 CCC) Saturday afternoon, in a constant rainstorm, at the OIT Soccer Field.

"Great first weekend to be able to come out with 6 points," said head coach Casey Tate. "We battled until the end to get the win today. But we need to be much better if we want to be at the top of the conference at the end of the year."

The Hustlin' Owls hit the scoreboard first as John Sarna served up a nice cross that Anthony Santillan finished for his third goal of the year, giving Tech the early 1-0 lead in the 4th minute.

Evergreen State quickly answered with the equalizer, just five minutes later. Mathew Jordan scored off a Lucas Alcala assist in the 9th minute.

The score would remain locked at 1-1 for the next 80 minutes of play.

With just 29 seconds remaining in regulation, Tech took three consecutive corner kicks in a row, with third drawing a yellow card on the Geoduck defense for a kick to the face. Tech's Jake Mitchell would not be denied as his Penalty Kick hit the back of net giving the Owls a 2-1 win. The goal for Mitchell was his fourth of the season.

Tech dominated possession, with a 30-2 advantage in shots and a big 8-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Owls will next play at Southern Oregon University on Friday, September 24 at 11:00 AM. The Raiders like the Owls have a 6-0 record and are 2-0 in CCC play.
