Reyes Leads Owls to Upset of No.21 Southern Oregon

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— After dropping 34 straight matches that dated back to 2005, the Oregon Tech volleyball team finally took down Southern Oregon University in a 3-0 sweep Tuesday night (25-22, 25-23, 25-11) in Cascade Conference play at Danny Miles Court. Tech improves to 9-1 on the year and 5-0 in CCC play; the Raiders fell to 2-3 in the CCC and 7-3 overall.

"I think every OIT alumni was cheering for us tonight, or at least it felt that way," said head coach Ken Murczek. "It is always great to see our program take a step in the right direction and beat a ranked opponent on our home floor. Our serving pressure was the difference-maker tonight and I am incredibly proud of the team for having the confidence to take some risks and hit difficult spots on the court. Happy to see Nicole Reyes get in a great rhythm after being named conference offensive player of the week with 12 kills and hitting .440 tonight. Excited to us build off of this for 2 very tough and ranked opponents this weekend."

Reyes led Tech with four kills in the 25-22 first set win. The set was tied 21-21 before the Owls rolled four of the next five points to win 25-22. SOU's Hannah Stadstad led all players with six kills in the set.

The second set was tied nine times before the Raiders took a 22-20 lead. The Owls then stole momentum, winning five of the last six points to win 25-23.

The Owls carried that momentum into the third and final set, building leads of 6-3, 9-3, 13-5, 17-7 and 19 -10. Tech finished off the dominating performance, winning seven of the last eight points to win 25-11 and end the Raiders' win streak.

The Owls held the Raiders to a .095 hitting clip on the night while hitting at a .282 percentage themselves.

Reyes finished with a game-high 12 kills, seven digs, and three service aces to lead the Owls with Faith Houck-Wylie drilling 9 kills home for Tech. Courtney Isom had a game-high 24 assists for the Owls.

The Owls will have their toughest test of the season this weekend as they travel to Bushnell Friday and No. 7 Corban Saturday.  Current CCC Standings
