KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.—In a battle of two conference undefeated teams, it was Oregon Tech (4-0 CCC, 8-1) who walked away from Danny Miles Court Saturday night with a three-set sweep 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) over Northwest University (3-1 CCC, 4-5). The win by Tech snapped the Eagles' four game win streak that includes an upset win last night over No. 21 Southern Oregon.
"Incredible job this evening of executing by our team," said head coach
Ken Murczek. "We served aggressively and got our block/defense in the right spots against their most impactful attackers. I'm excited for the team to enjoy the weekend 2-0 and then get ready for Southern Oregon on Tuesday."
For the match, Tech hit over .237 while holding the Eagles to .076.
The Owls got off to a good start with a 3-0 lead in set 1; they extended that lead to 5-2 before NU rolled five straight points to take a 7-5 lead. Tech tied the set at 10 after back-to-back service aces by
Brooke Cassidy. OIT then went on a tear with six straight points to go up 16-12. The Eagles battled back to make it a 20-18 set, but the determined Owls finished off the frame by taking the next five points to win 25-18.
Freshman
Molly Grace caught fire in the second set with six kills as Tech connected on 12 of 29 attempts. In that second set the teams battled early before the Owls opened up a lead of 17-12, and 21-14 before winning 25-18 on an
Aubrey Kievit ace.
In what would end up being the third and final set, Tech took the early lead 10-6 as
Ashley Ripplinger and
Nicole Reyes went back-to-back-to-back with alternating kills. Reyes would add three more to her game high 14 kills, leading Tech down the stretch to the 25-18 set and match win.
Grace finished the night with 8 kills with Rippling slamming in 7 kills for the Owls.
Northwest was led by Abi Broussard with 12 kills.
Tech's
Courtney Isom once again held down the middle setting up a game high 31 assists for OIT.
