Lady Owls Win Five Set Thriller Over Geoducks

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.—After falling behind two-sets to zero to the visiting Geoducks of Evergreen State (2-1 CCC, 2-2), Oregon Tech was able to switch gears and make a big comeback, Friday night at Danny Miles Court. Tech won the final three-sets to capture their third straight Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) game, moving the Owls to 3-0 in CCC play and 7-1 on the season with the 3-2 win (20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14, 15-7).  Watch the game on YouTube | Current CCC Standings

"WOW!!! Tremendous team effort tonight by the Lady Owls," said head coach Ken Murczek. "I'm very excited to see us get down 0-2 and play from behind in the 3rd set to extend the match. Several different players went in during the 3rd set until we found a solid combination. We will need to take a breath and reset for the 3-0 Northwest University team tomorrow night at 5pm."

Evergreen was on fire in the first two sets, jumping out to big leads, holding on for a pair of 25-20 set wins. In set one it was Lily Stewart leading the Geoduck with four kills, while Hannah Rongen added six kills hitting at a .556 in the first two sets.

After sitting out the first two conference games last weekend due to an injury, senior Nicole Reyes returned to the Owls' lineup and led Tech's comeback with 17 kills on the night, including five kills in the third set alone. Tech turned the tables on Evergreen, winning set three 25-20.

OIT busted out of the fourth set with a 9-4 lead and never looked back taking momentum on the way to leads of 12-6, 15-6, 18-7, and 25-14 to force the fifth and final set.

Reyes served the Owls to a 5-1 lead serving four straight points to open the frame. Tech once again controlled tempo and speed of the set with leads of 7-2, 10-5, and 12-5 after Brooke Cassidy served Tech to four straight points. An Ashley Ripplinger service ace sealed the Owl win 15-7 and the match victory.

After Reyes, Faith Houck-Wylie slammed 13 kills, with freshman Molly Grace coming up clutch matching her career high with 9 kills.

Courtney Isom held down the middle with 33 set assists while the back line was controlled by Aubrey Kievit who had a game high 19 digs for the Owls while Lindsey Sampson and Brooke Cassidy added 13 and 11 digs respectively.

Tech will host Northwest University Saturday at 5:00 PM at Danny Miles Court. The Eagles upset No. 21 Southern Oregon 3-2 Friday in Ashland.
