Lady Owls Suffer Setback, Split with Warner Pacific

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— No.5 Oregon Tech suffered a setback on Friday afternoon, splitting with Warner Pacific. The Lady Owls (27-5, 13-4 CCC) lost to the Knights (13-16, 6-11 CCC) in Game 1, 2-3, but the Owls bounced back to claim Game 2, 7-5. Sarah Abramson suffered her 3rd loss of the season while McKenzie Staub played clean up, picking up her 14th win of the season in the latter of the double-header.

"We did not swing the bats today the way we are capable of as a team," said head coach Greg Stewart. "I was happy to see us bounce back in game two but we need to come out with more determination tomorrow against a good Warner Pac team."

Game One: Warner Pacific 3 Oregon Tech 2

In this low-scoring affair, Warner Pacific grabbed the early 1-0 lead as Emma Foster homered in the top of the 2nd.

Krista Ward was quick to respond for the hosts in the bottom of the 2nd however, Ward hit a solo shot of her own, knotting the game at 1 run a piece.

Each side would go quiet in the 3rd, but it was Warner Pacific who made some noise in the 4th.

The visiting Knights plated a run on one of Abramson's 6 walks, then brought another home on a groundout to snag a 3-1 advantage.

Like they did in the 2nd inning though, the Owls would grab a run back. Jensen Becker was able to steal home to pull the Owls back within a run.

After 4 innings, the 5th-ranked Lady Owls were trailing 3-2.

In the final 3 frames, Knights pitcher Melia Croydon was nails, sitting down 9 of the final 10 Owls batters.

It was Croydon's solid effort down the stretch that would grab the win for her side.

Abramson picked up the loss for Tech, although she threw well down the stretch like Croydon.

Abramson threw 7 innings allowing 6 hits, 3 earned runs, walking 6, plunking 1, and striking out 3.

The Owls were led at the plate by Ward and Becker who each had 2 hits in 3 at-bats.

Game Two: Oregon Tech 7 Warner Pacific 5

After struggling in Game 1, the bats woke up for the hosts, who got 2x the hits in Game 2 as they did in Game 1.

In Game 2, it was Tech's turn to grab a 1-0 lead, scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning. An Aubrie Businger RBI single was enough to grab the Owls the slight early advantage.

However, like Tech did in Game 1, Warner Pacific would tie the game at 1 in the next half.

Needing to win this game, the Owls made no mistake in the bottom of the 2nd, grabbing 3 runs to give pitcher McKenzie Staub some necessary insurance. A Kaila Mick 2RBI triple and Kennedy Jantzi RBI double was what did the job for the hosts.

Leading 4-1, Warner Pacific then hit 2 home runs in the very next half inning to knot the game back up at 4.

The Owls would grab another 3 runs in the very next half-inning, grabbing a 7-4 advantage they'd never lose.

Driscoll had an RBI single and Armantrout had a 2 RBI double that did the duty for the Lady Owls.

Solid pitching would slam the door on the Knights, allowing the Owls to grab an essential Game 2 victory.

McKenzie Staub picked up the win for Tech, throwing 4 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 earned runs with 6 strike-outs.

Abramson threw well in relief, slamming the door for Tech to earn the save.

Tech was led at the plate by Lethlean, Armantrout and Jantzi who all picked up 2 hits each.

The Two teams conclude the four games series with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am
