KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.—No. 5 Oregon Tech (29-5, 14-4 CCC) swept a Saturday doubleheader from Warner Pacific (13-18, 6-12 CCC). Both Owl starting pitchers went the distance, combining for 21-strikeouts while the offense powered 25-hits and 15-runs in the 6-1, and 9-1 wins at John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.
"We showed some grit and determination today," commented head coach
Greg Stewart. "I was really proud of our team for making some great adjustments both at the plate and in the circle."
In game 1,
Sarah Abramson struck out 12 over 7-innings, giving up just 1-run as she improved to 14-3 on the year, moving into 5
th all-time at OIT with 51 career wins (just two wins behind 53 of Jenni Bittle (2006-2008).
Each team scored 1-run in the first inning; Tech then scored twice in the second on four hits.
Tech made it a 4-1 lead with a run in the fourth highlighted by an
Olivia Lethlean double.
Maggie Buckholz (pictured by
Kelly Caleb) hit her first homer of the day and 6
th of the year in the fifth to give OIT a 5-1 advantage.
Tech added a little insurance in the 6
th inning, as Lethlean singled, stole a base, and scored to make it 6-1 as the Knights finally went down in the 7
th after loading the bases on three hits.
Buckholz led the Owls with three hits in the game with
Kaila Mick and Lethlean adding two-hits each.
Payton Hergert, and Emma Foster led the Knights with three hits each.
In game 2, OIT got-off to an incredible start, after McKenzie Staub struck out the side in the top of the frame. Tech scored five-runs on six-hits in bottom of the inning. The Owls hit for the cycle in the frame, with singles by
Kennedy Jantzi,
Aubrie Businger, and
Jensen Becker, a double by
Krista Ward, a triple by Mick and topped it off with a three-run blast by Buckholz to take a 5-0 lead.
Tech added two more runs in the second inning on a Mick two-run blast, her 5
th of the year.
The Knights got on the board in the third, making it a 7-1 game.
The Owls answered right back on a Buckholz double, then added one more run in the sixth on a Mick double and a mercy rule game ending RBI single by Jantzi.
The freshman Staub was fantastic in the circle for Tech, striking out nine, allowing just three-hits as she picked up the win improving to 15-2 on the year.
Oregon Tech will host Carroll College (11-22, 4-10 CCC) next weekend April 16 and 17 with doubleheaders starting at 2:00 pm Friday, and 11:00 AM Saturday.
