#6 Lady Owls Sweep Friday Double-Header over #23 College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho -- No. 6 Oregon Tech (34-6, 18-5) swept No. 23 College of Idaho (30-14, 18-5) 5-0 and 4-2 on Friday afternoon. The two victories for Tech pull them even with the Yotes as the two will battle for 2nd place in tomorrow's doubleheader. Sarah Abramson was lights out and essential to the two victories Tech claimed on Friday at Symms Field.

Assistant coach Jamie Leveque on the Owls two wins today, "We got great pitching and timely hitting today. The team played all around today like it was playoff softball against a very good and well coached College of Idaho team."

Game One: Oregon Tech 5 College of Idaho 0

In the first game, Sarah Abramson dominated in the circle for the 6th-ranked Lady Owls.

With the score being close until the final frame, Abramson used one of her best outings as an Owl, en route to her 16th victory of the season.

After a scoreless first two innings, Tech was able to breakthrough in the 3rd. In the 3rd, Aubrie Businger singled up the middle to plate McKenna Armantrout to put the Owls up 1-0.

With Abramson throwing lights out, Tech picked up one more run on a fielder's choice in the 5th.

It wasn't until the 7th inning, when Krista Ward broke the game open on a 3-Run HR, to give her team some breathing room in a key battle for 2nd place in the CCC.

As Abramson had done all day, she sat down the Yotes' in order and Tech claimed the victory.

Abramson threw 7 innings, allowing only 2 hits, no runs, 1 walk, and struck out 9.

The victory in the circle moved her record to 16-4 on the season.

Tech out-hit COI 9-2 in the game which was pivotal down the stretch where runs seemed a premium at times.

The Lady Owls were led at the plate by Businger who went 3-4. Armantrout, Ward, and Jantzi all added 2 hits each in the win.

Game Two: #6 Oregon Tech 4 #23 College of Idaho 2

In Game 2, it was a late rally for the Lady Owls that allowed them to pick up the win.

Kylie Smith got the games 1st run, hitting an RBI double to plate Haley Loffer and give the Yotes a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd.

Tech had been shut down by Yotes pitcher Annie Polster through the first 4 innings, but would tie the game at 1 in the 5th.

Jensen Becker scored with 2 outs in the 5th after Aubrie Businger was hit by a pitch.

However, the hosts would reclaim a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 5th when Loffer went yard off of Tech starter Mckenzie Staub.

After the COI HR, Staub's day would be done and the ball would be in the hands of Abramson to continue to keep the College of Idaho batters at bay.

And that she did.

Abramson would shut down the Yotes in two and â…” innings of work, which allowed Tech to comeback.

With one out in the 7th, trailing 1-2, Krista Ward came through, again, with a 2-run double to give Tech the lead. Kennedy Jantzi followed her up with an RBI single that gave the Lady Owls some cushion.

In the bottom of the 7th, Abramson sat down the Yotes in order to claim her 17th win on the season, advancing her record to 17-4.

Abramson only allowed 1 hit in relief for Staub who threw 4 â…“ giving up 2 earned runs.

Tech was led at the plate by McKenna Armantrout who was 3-4.

The Lady Owls will return to play tomorrow for games 3 and 4 of the weekend series.
