KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— After suffering a setback split yesterday, No.5 Oregon Tech (32-6, 17-5) won both games on Saturday to win the weekend series over Carroll College (13-25, 7-15 ). Tech won 6-2 and 8-0 in games 3 and 4, which featured strong pitching once again and some offensive firepower the Lady Owls had been missing the day before.
Game One: Oregon Tech 6 Carroll College 2
For the 2nd time in 3 games, Carroll got on the board in the 1st inning. The Fighting Saints grabbed a run off of an Anna Davidson RBI single for the early 1-0 lead.
Yesterday, it was errors that cost the Lady Owls the first game against Carroll, and today it was the errors that would end up hurting the visitors.
Tech would grab 3 runs in the bottom half of the 1st, coming off of 2 costly Carroll College errors.
The 3-1 lead that the Owls grabbed in the 1st inning is a lead that
Sarah Abramson would preserve in the circle, having a great bounce-back outing.
The Owls would add a run in the 3rd, 4th and 5th inning which allowed Abramson some breathing room to slam the door on the Saints.
Leading 6-1 through 5 innings, Carroll would grab 1 run in the 7th, but their rally fell well short.
Abramson threw 7 innings, allowing 8 hits, and 2 earned runs as she improved to 15-4.
For Carroll College, Sarah Conway was the best hitter from both sides, going 3 for 4.
After being out-hit yesterday by Carroll the Owls had the bats rolling with 11 hits in the game.
Tech was led at the plate by
McKenna Armantrout who had 3 hits in 5 at bats with
Aubrie Businger,
Kennedy Jantzi,
Jensen Becker, and
Olivia Lethlean producing two-hits each in the game.
Game Two Oregon Tech 8 Carroll 0 (6 innings)
In the non-conference game 4 of the weekend series,
Mckenzie Staub pitched her 2nd shutout of Carroll on the weekend. The dominant showing in the circle once again from Staub moved her to 17-2 on the season.
Staub threw 6 shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 5.
With Staub dominating in the circle, the Owl offense was able to grab an early lead.
In the 1st inning, Businger was able to hit a sacrifice fly that gave Tech an early 1-0 lead.
The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the 4th where Tech extended their advantage as
Krista Ward used the long-ball to put Tech ahead 3-0 on a 2-run homer, her 8
th of the season.
Staub would sit down the Saints once again and Tech exploded for 5 more runs down the stretch to win 8-0 in 6 on the mercy rule as they scored four times in the sixth.
Carroll was led at the plate by Jessica Nimmo who had her team's 2 hits.
Tech was led at the plate by Ward and Businger who each had 2 hits.
Tech will return to play next week when they travel to face College of Idaho (30-12, 18-3) in a pivotal weekend series for 2nd place in the CCC.
