Lady Owls Suffer 2nd Setback Split in 2 Weeks.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— #5 Oregon Tech suffered their 2nd setback split in consecutive weeks, dropping game one, 5-2, but winning game two, 4-0. Carroll College (12-23, 7-13 CCC), went toe-to-toe with the 5th-ranked Oregon Tech Owls (30-6, 15-5 CCC) playing some strong softball in the first day of the weekend series. Owls' pitcher Sarah Abramson threw a strong 11 innings in the first game for Tech, but it was Mckenzie Staub (pictured) who was the star in the circle for Tech on Friday.

"It was not our best day offensively but I was proud of the way Sarah and Kenzie pitched today," said head coach Greg Stewart. "I am also proud of how we always rebound after a tough loss and I look forward to see how perform in game one tomorrow."

Game One: Carroll 5 Oregon Tech 2 (11-innings)

In the top of the 1st Inning, it was the visiting Saints who got on the board early. An RBI single from Amber Brewer plated a run and Caroll added a 2nd after a Tech outfielder bobbled the ball. However, like they've done all year, Tech responded. Kaila Mick drove a 2-strike pitch to right field, hitting the top of the yellow trim on the outfield fence for a solo-HR, her 6th of the year.

With the Owls trailing 2-1 after 1, this would remain the score for the next 3 frames.

In the 5th, Carroll would add a hit, but couldn't plate a run. In the bottom half, Tech went 3-up and 3-down, as the Fighting Saints were clinging on to their 1 run lead.

After a 4 pitch top of the 6th, Tech still trailed 2-1 headed to the bottom half. Aubrie Businger however, had something to say about that. Businger ripped a solo HR over the centerfield wall to tie the game at 2, it was her 9th homer on the season and gave OIT a NAIA best 52 home runs as a team.

This score would remain tied as the two sides went to the 7th inning all knotted up.

In the 7th, Abramson would continue to slam the door on the Saints, throwing her 6th consecutive shutout frame. Her dominance gave her team the chance to win their 30th game in the bottom half.

Unfortunately, her team couldn't secure the walk-off run, and she'd head to the 8th looking to continue her strong outing.

Both sides would go scoreless in the 8th and the 9th, as the rubber match continued at John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.

In the 10th, both sides got 2 runners on with 2 out. Neither however, could grab that go-ahead or game-winning run.

In the top of the 11th, Carroll grabbed another run via an outfield bobble which allowed Sarah Conway to score from 2nd base. The Saints would plate 2 more unearned runs in the top half, giving them a 5-2 lead they wouldn't concede.

The Saints outhit the Owls 14-9.

Sarah Abramson pitched a gem for Tech throwing 11 innings in the loss. She allowed 2 earned runs on 14 hits, walking 1 and striking out 8.

Game Two: Oregon Tech 4 Carroll 0

After struggling for the final 5 frames of Game 1, the Owls jumped on the visiting Saints in the 1st Inning. Armantrout doubled, then Businger hit her in on a Fielder's choice.

Mckenzie Staub toed the rubber for the Owls, and she turned away the Saints in the first three frames of the game, allowing as many hits.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Krista Ward gave Staub some insurance, plating Armantrout on an RBI single.

Staub would continue to shut down the Saints, and through 4 and a half innings, Tech led 2-0.

In the bottom of the 5th, McKenna Armantrout scored for the 3rd time in the game, as Mick singled, then both advanced on an error to extend the Owl lead. Businger would groundout in the next at bat, but it would plate Mick as the Owls went up 4-0.

Leading 4-0, Staub continued to throw a gem for Tech. She would slam the door in the final frame for Tech earning the shutout win.

Staub threw 7 scoreless innings and picked up the victory. She gave up 5 hits, no walks, and struck out 7 to improve to 16-2 on the season.

Tech was led at the plate by Kaila Mick in game 2, who went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.

The victory for the Owls was their 30th of the season.

The Lady Owls will return to play tomorrow when they host Carroll for 2 more games starting at 11:00 AM.
