LA GRANDE, Ore.—Eastern Oregon's Max McCullough hit a buzzer beating three-pointer on the run with just one second remaining as the Mountaineers avoided overtime with a 90-87 win Saturday afternoon at Quinn Coliseum.
"Keegan was really good once again and Matt was phenomenal for only playing 12 minutes because of foul trouble, said head coach
Justin Parnell. "Our slow start finally burned as we couldn't make this one up early enough in the second half. We did fight back and has some great possessions down the stretch. We're 6-2 and both losses have come to shots as the time expires."
Eastern Oregon took a 41-36 lead into the halftime break as they out-scored the Owls 11-0 at the free throw line, Tech was 0-for-2 while EOU was 11-15.
Neither team shot the ball well from the floor in the stanza, EOU was 13-for-33 while Tech was 15-for-33.
Both teams improved greatly in the second half, Tech was 17-for-24 for 71% while EOU was 19-for-30 for 63%
McCullough finished with a game high 28 points to lead EOU.
Tech had five players score in double-figures in the loss, led by freshman
Keegan Shivers (#23 PICTURED) who had 24 points. Matt Van Tassel had 16 points with
Harrison Steiger,
Jamison Guerra, and Kameron Osborn all chipping in 10-points each in the loss.
With the win EOU earns the split of the two game series and moves to 6-5 on the season and 2-3 in CCC play. OIT falls to 6-2 on the year and 6-2 in conference action with the loss.
Tech will next play host to Humboldt University on Sunday, April 18 at 4:00 pm at Danny Miles Court.
