Hustlin’ Owls Win 2 in Offensive Onslaught over EOU

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech (10-14, 5-5 CCC) swept the Saturday doubleheader over Eastern Oregon (3-11, 3-7 CCC), scoring 31 combined runs between the two games. Tech used 6 hits from Dalton Daily, and the performances from many others on the way to a fantastic offensive showing at Kiger Stadium.

"Our bats came alive today," said Oregon Tech head coach Jacob Garsez. "It was great to see our guys compete with conviction at the plate. Excited to see our response as a team tomorrow."

Game One: Oregon Tech 12 Eastern Oregon 7

Tech grabbed the lead in the 1st inning, a bunt from Micah Jio scored Kaleb Keelean as HC Garsez' small ball maneuver paid off.

The lead wouldn't last long though, as EOU would go ahead in the 2nd inning on a 2RBI single.

Back-and-forth they'd go, as OIT grabbed a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 2nd off of an RBI single by Zack Stockton, and a 2 run single from Jesse Dunham.

Once again though, the lead wouldn't last long. EOU hit back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles in the 5th inning to go ahead 6-4, then an RBI single to push it to 7-4.

This would be the end of the offense for the Mountaineers in game 1.

Going down 4-7, the Owls would respond. After a flurry of RBI singles, Micah Jio would blast a 2-run homer to put Tech ahead 9-7, a lead they'd never look back on.

In the 8th inning, Stockton would hit a 2 run HR of his own for some insurance that would push the Owls back into the win column.

Patrick Arman picked up the win on the mound for the Owls, throwing 7 innings, allowing 7 runs on 14 hits, walking 0 and striking out 3.

Josh Davis would come on in relief and slam the door for Tech. Davis threw 2 innings, allowing no runs, one hit and struck out two.

Jio and Kellen Mendez would lead the Owls offensively, with 3 hits apiece while Stockton added 4 RBIs.

Game Two: Oregon Tech 19 Eastern Oregon 10

This game got off to an extremely hot start, with each side displaying elite offense.

EOU scored 5 runs in the top of the 1st, on 4 hits, which gave them a lead that looked like it may bury the Owls. But it didn't. The Owls would respond with 7-runs in the bottom half, highlighted by 6 hits, 3 of them being doubles.

After a tough 1st inning from Tech starter Dylan Grogan, Brendan Talonen would come in and clean up very nicely. Talonen would throw 4 scoreless innings from the 2nd to 6th inning, which allowed the Owls to build a 19-5 lead.

The scoring from Tech was highlighted by a 3-run HR from Dunham and a 2-run shot from Daily. Everyone from the Tech offense got going, as every single starter got at least one hit.

EOU would attempt to rally, but could only pull within 9, and the weekend sweep was sealed for Tech.

Tech starter Dylan Grogan threw one inning, giving up 4 earned runs on 4 hits while walking 3.

Brendan Talonen would come on in relief and be the winning pitcher for the Owls. Talonen threw 5 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3.

Ryan Poling would be next in relief for Tech throwing 2 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3.

Spencer Dahlke would be the final pitcher of the night for Tech throwing 1 inning, giving up no runs on 1 hit, and striking 1 out.

Tech was led offensively by Daily who had 4 hits with Keelean and Mendez adding 3 hits each.

OIT will return to play tomorrow to face off against EOU in two more games in this 4 game series at Kiger Stadium starting at 11:00 am.
