Lady Owls Edge Warriors

SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Tech women's soccer team's series finale against Corban came down to the wire on Monday, with both squads fighting valiantly in a defensive battle. A 51st-minute goal from the Owls' Mehana Ortiz proved to be the difference in the contest, lifting OIT to a 1-0 triumph and earning a series split. OIT improves to 5-1 on the year and 3-1 in Conference.

Between the pipes, Oregon Tech's Alyx Burkhartzmeyer (Pictured) notched a clean sheet, collecting a pair of saves in the first CCC defeat of the season for Corban who fall to 3-2 on the season and 3-1 in the CCC.

In the first half, the Lady Owls had everything but a goal to show for a truly dominant half of play. Tech out-shot Corban 8-1, and displayed some very resolute defending.

Throughout the entire first 45 minutes, the Lady Owls did not allow Corban to muster a single shot on goal.

Suffering the loss yesterday, Tech came in knowing this was a key match in the West division of the CCC. If the Lady Owls were to lose, they would fall 2 games back of Corban which would have been a tough task to accomplish.

51st Minute -- With the pressure on the road team to get a result, Ortiz coolly slotted a shot into the far left corner that grabbed a lead the Owls would never look back on. The shot from Ortiz was located perfectly into the top corner, giving the keeper for Corban virtually no chance.

Tech defended physically the rest of the match, picking up two second half yellow cards, but that was just a part of an amazing effort the Owls put forth.

Tech finished the match out-shooting the Warriors 15-5, and had 6 more shots on goal.

Tech will return to play next week to host Bushnell University at home Sunday and Monday. Game time on both days is slated for 12:00 pm. Oregon Tech campus administration will be limiting the number of spectators allowed in our athletic home venues. With our limited venue capacity, we are prioritizing our Oregon Tech student athletes' family members. Oregon Tech is following current Klamath County guidelines which has recently moved into the Moderate Risk category. Moderate Risk allows for a small number of people to be allowed inside venues. Masks and social distancing will be required at all times.
