SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon Tech Owls (3-4, 1-3 CCC) played hard, but couldn't contain the 16th-ranked Corban Warriors (6-0, 4-0 CCC). The hosts controlled the tempo from the opening kick and played a 90-minute affair that was quite frankly top-10 worthy. The Owls showed many flashes that they could compete with Corban, but in the long-run it wasn't enough to grab a result at the CFC Soccer Complex.
"It was a great effort from the guys in both games," said head coach
Casey Tate. "Proud of the way we competed. We will look to get better and go again next week."
17th Minute -- With that being said, Corban's Matheus Giron would calmly slot the penalty kick early on to give the 16th-ranked Warriors an early 1-0 advantage that broke the Owl's strong early resistance. It was Giron's 3rd goal of the weekend, and 2nd from the penalty spot.
25th Minute -- The set piece would once again haunt the Owls as Chadwayne Johnson headed the ball in off the corner kick to put Corban ahead 2-0 on the night, and take the wind out of Tech's sail.
Despite the early goals from Corban, Tech put together a strong 20 minutes to end the 1st half. The Owls defended very well, and created a few attacking opportunities but unfortunately none of their created chances could find the back of the net to half the deficit.
At the intermission, Corban led 2-0 and had outshot Tech 11-2.
58th Minute -- The second half got off to nearly the same start that the first period did. The Warriors went down in the box, drawing their 4th penalty of the weekend. This time, Carlos Llamosa assumed the duties, and slotted in his 3rd goal of the season, and Corban's 3rd goal of the match.
87th Minute -- Corban would add a 4th goal from Eric Bengana. Bengana worked a slick give-and-go with Noe Favila who picked up his 2nd assist of the match.
The Warriors out-shot Tech 19-8, and had more shots on goal, by an advantage of 10-2.
Tech will return to play next week to host Bushnell University at home Sunday and Monday. Game time on both days is slated for 2:30 pm at the OIT Soccer Pitch. Oregon Tech campus administration will be limiting the number of spectators allowed in our athletic home venues. With our limited venue capacity, we are prioritizing our Oregon Tech student athletes' family members. Oregon Tech is following current Klamath County guidelines which has recently moved into the Moderate Risk category. Moderate Risk allows for a small number of people to be allowed inside venues. Masks and social distancing will be required at all times.
