SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon Tech Owls (4-1) battled hard but weren't able to hold on as they suffered a loss to the 16th-ranked Corban Warriors (5-0). On a very rainy and cold afternoon at the Capital FC Soccer Complex, the Warriors were the better side who controlled the game for 90 minutes. The Warriors were also extremely efficient putting 8 of their 9 shots on goal.
Â
8th Minute -- Following a game of pinball in the box, the ball was poked in through a crowd by Corban's Evan Hoover, his 1st goal of the season, in 5 games. The goal put Corban ahead 1-0, a lead they'd hold the rest of the half.
Â
A key to Corban's first-half resistance was pinching their backline in when Tech would attack the final third. Crucial challenges from the Warrior's defense would keep the score at 1-0 headed to the midway point.
Â
At the half, Tech had 4 shots, 2 on goal, and Corban had 4 shots, with all 4 being put on frame.
Â
Just like the women did for Corban in the game before, they came out in the second half creating a scoring opportunity immediately.
Â
47th Minute -- Corban earned a penalty kick right out of the gates to begin the second half. Charles Cleyton stepped up to the penalty spot but attempted an illegal penalty kick routine. Cleyton, instead of shooting, laid the ball off for a runner to come from outside the box to shoot, but this routine was quickly waved off.
Â
71st Minute -- Corban sold another foul in the box, which would award their 2nd penalty kick of the match. This time Matheu Giron stepped up to the spot and sent Corban ahead 2-0.
Â
74th Minute -- After getting their 2nd goal, the Warriors responded extremely fast, with Giron grabbing his 2nd goal of the match. Giron ran through the Tech defense and slotted the shot into the corner sealing the victory for the 16th-ranked hosts.
Â
Unfortunately, the Owls couldn't find a goal, despite barely being out-shot by Corban.
Â
The Warriors out-shot Tech 7-2, and had more shots on goal, which was a key to the match.
The two teams will play again on Monday at the Capital FC Soccer Complex.Â
