KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech advanced to 10-0 for the 1st time in program history, sweeping a 4 game non-conference series over Northwest University. The Lady Owls (10-0) beat the visiting Eagles (0-4), 6-2 and 6-3 on Saturday in strong pitching performances from
Sarah Abramson and
Mckenzie Staub.
McKenna Armantrout continued her incredible weekend going 7-8 between the two games, and 14-17 overall this weekend.
"It was another good day for our ladies playing through some cold and windy conditions again to come away with a sweep on the weekend," said head coach
Greg Stewart. "Even though we did not capitalize on some scoring opportunities in both games, I was happy to see us make adjustments at the plate and execute with sac hits and timely RBIs. I am very proud of this team and how they are playing with confidence."
Game One: Oregon Tech 6 Northwest 2
Northwest grabbed the lead in the top of the 1st off of 2 hits.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of NU until the bottom of the 3rd where OIT tied the game on a
Krista Ward sac fly.
Tech would break the game open in the 4th inning, scoring 3 runs, highlighted by a
Kennedy Jantzi home run, her 4th of the season.
Sam Parisio would homer for the Eagles in the top of the 5th to shorten their deficit to 4-2.
Kaila Mick added what would be the final runs of the game with a 2 run double in the 6th that sealed the 6-2 victory.
Lady Owls pitcher
Sarah Abramson was solid again, throwing 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, while striking out 9.
Armantrout led the Owls once again, with 3-hits in 3 at bats, along with an RBI. Mick led the team with the 2 RBI.
Game Two: Oregon Tech 6 Northwest 3
In another competitive contest, OIT went back and forth with NU using their bats late, to run away with the game.
Like Northwest did in the first game, Tech grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. A
Kennedy Jantzi RBI double plated Armantrout to give the Owls the advantage.
The score would remain 1-0 until NU knotted the game at 1 in the top of the 4th. Like Jantzi, a Nunes' RBI double would plate a run for the Eagles.
Tech wouldn't be denied for long though, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th.
Mackenzie Driscoll grabbed an RBI single while
Kaila Mick grounded into a fielder's choice that plated the 3rd run.
In the top of the 5th, Northwest would grab 2 runs off of 3 hits to tie the game, putting pressure back on the Lady Owls.
In the back-and-forth affair, the Owls would grab a lead they'd never look back on off a
Jensen Becker sac fly.
In the bottom of the 6th, Tech added some insurance on a Mick RBI single and a Jantzi sac fly.
The Eagles were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the 7th with 2 runners on, but Ward slammed the door for the victory.
Mckenzie Staub was the starting pitcher for the Lady Owls, grabbing her 4th win of the season, improving her record to 4-0 overall.
Staub threw 5 innings, allowing 3 runs, only 1 earned run, 5 hits, walking 2, and striking out a career-high 10 batters.
Krista Ward came on in relief throwing 2 innings, allowing no runs, 1 hit, no walks and 1 strikeout, which earned her the save.
Once again, Armantrout lit it up for OIT. Armantrout had 3 hits, while Mick, Businger, and Becker all had 2 hits.
The Lady Owls will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Great Falls, Montana to face Providence in a 4 game series.
