KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The bats for Oregon Tech (8-0) were on fire in a Friday sweep over the visiting Northwest University Eagles (0-2). The Owls had 21 hits in Game 1, winning 20-0, behind
Sarah Abramson's first career no hitter, the Owls then added 12 hits in Game 2, winning 10-0. OIT was led by
McKenna Armantrout (Pictured) who was 7-9 in the two games combined, with 7 hits and 9 RBIs. Tech made the first series of the year for Northwest a tough one, en route to their first 8-0 start in program history. The Owls led each game from start to finish in a dominant home opener at John & Lois Stilwell Stadium.
"It was great to see the team hit the ball well up and down the line-up," said head coach
Greg Stewart. "We've got great pitching and catching again with congrats to Sarah on her first college no-hitter. McKenna had an offensive performance today that I can't remember ever being matched more than once or twice in my career at Tech. I am really proud of this group and how they are coming together."
Game One: Oregon Tech 20 Northwest 0 (5)
Tech opened up the game with a 15 run 2nd inning for a 16-0 lead after 2.
The Owls scored 15 runs on 12 hits and 3 Northwest errors in the bottom of the 2nd.
Tech would tack on 1 more in the 3rd, and 3 in the 4th to extend the lead to 20.
Abramson threw 5 innings, allowing 0 hits, walking 3, and striking out 8 improving to 4-0.
McKenna Armantrout led the Owls, 5-hits in 5 at bats, along with 5 RBIs.
Maggie Buckholz and
Kennedy Jantzi contributed with 3 RBIs each.
Armantrout and Jantzi also both had home runs in the victory.
Game Two: Oregon Tech 10 Northwest 0 (5)
Both sides had a hit in the 1st inning, but nothing would come of it, and the score remained tied headed to the 2nd.
Like the Owls did in Game 1, they broke open the scoring in the 2nd plating 3 runs off of 5 hits, to grab a 3-0 lead.
Tech wouldn't slow down in the 3rd inning, plating 5 more runs to extend their lead to 8-0.
In the 4th inning, OIT grabbed 2 more runs to extend their lead to 10-0, which would be the final score.
Mckenzie Staub was the pitcher for the Lady Owls, grabbing her 3rd win of the season, improving her record to 3-0 overall.
Staub threw 4 innings, allowing 0 runs, 1 hit, walking 3, and striking out 6.
Kacie Schmidt made her debut in the circle in relief for the Owls, throwing 1 inning, allowing 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 2.
Once again,
McKenna Armantrout lit it up in the box for OIT. Armantrout had 2 hits and a team-high 4 RBIs. Adding 2 hits for the Owls as well was
Kaila Mick,
Aubrie Businger, and
Kennedy Jantzi.
Jantzi, like she did in Game 1, hit a home run, her team-leading 3rd of the season.
The Lady Owls will return to action tomorrow, to host Northwest for two more games, at 12:00/2:00PM.
