ROCKLIN, Calif. – Oregon Tech stayed perfect on the year improving to 4-0 with a sweep on day one of the Warrior Softball Tournament. Tech downed the host Warriors of William Jessup (3-7) by a score of 7-3 in the first game using a pair of two-run homers in the top of the 7
th to break up a 3-3 tie. In game 2, the Owls upset No. 17 ranked College of Idaho 4-2 hitting two more home runs in the win.
"The pitchers and catchers did a nice job and we got some timely hits in both games today," said head coach
Greg Stewart. "We still need to improve defensively but that will happen with more game reps."
Game 1 Oregon Tech 7 William Jessup 3
Tech took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the second inning on 3-hits including a leadoff double by
Maggie Buckholz.
The Warriors answered with 3-runs of their own on 2-hits and 2-errors by Oregon Tech to go ahead 3-2.
The Owls tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the 5
th.
Tech than took control of things in the 7
th as
Krista Ward and
Aubrie Businger (Pictured) each hit 2-run home runs to extend the Oregon Tech lead to 7-4.
Sara Abramson picked up the win in the circle to improve to 3-0; she struck-out 7 including two in the last inning, and she gave up just one earned run over 7-innings of work.
For the game, Tech out-hit the Warriors 9-6 with Buckholz and Businger leading the way with 2-hits each.
Game 2 Oregon Tech 4 No. 17 College of Idaho 2
Each team score one run in the second inning and the game stayed tied until OIT scored twice in the 4
th on an RBI single by
McKenna Armantrout and a deep home run to centerfield by
Kennedy Jantzi, her first of the year.
The Yotes made it a 3-2 game with a run in the bottom of the 4
th on 2-hits.
The game stayed 3-2 Owls until the 7
th when Businger hit her second 7
th inning homer of the day, a solo shot, giving Tech all the insurance it would need to win 4-2.
Freshman
Mckenzie Staub picked up her first win as an Owl in the circle, pitching the final 3.2 innings giving up just 1-hit with three-strikeouts.
McKenna Armantrout led the Owls with 2-hits in the game.
Tech and College of Idaho will play at noon tomorrow, the Owls will then wrap up the tournament against the hosts William Jessup at 2:00 pm, also on Saturday.
