KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The R.V. Oregon Tech Lady Owls (8-2) held off a late charge from Carroll College (5-4-1) on Friday afternoon for a 1-0 victory. The victory for Tech protects their undefeated home record and move them a game back of College of Idaho for 1st place in the conference.
Â
"It was a very good team effort to beat a top Carroll team.," said head coach
Casey Tate. "We created a lot of chances which was very good and we're able to finish one. The goal had a lot of players involved and was a full team effort."
Â
Tech came out on the front foot, serving long balls forward, but in the first half were ultimately thwarted by a Fighting Saints side who sure was fighting to keep the Owls off of the scoresheet.
Â
Tech saw a few of their efforts sail just over the bar, or in
Amanda Seward's case, right off the bar and out.
Â
Seward's attempt was the closest Tech got in half one, but for the most part it seemed like they lacked the final through ball to set themselves free on goal.
Â
Just 11 minutes into the second half however,
Mehana Ortiz broke through. Seward clipped a ball towards Ortiz who headed it back across the face of goal, leaving the keeper for the Fighting Saints rooted to her position.
Â
Fighting Saints keeper Sarah Conway had an incredible match, putting up 12 saves, but it was the one shot by Ortiz that was enough to win.
Â
Tech finished the match having outshot Carroll 19-4, with 13 of those being on frame.
Â
The victory for the Lady Owls improves their record to 8-2, with six regular season games remaining.
Â
Tech will travel northeast next weekend for two pivotal matches. First, they will face off against #20 Eastern Oregon (9-2), who are tied with Tech at 2nd in the CCC Standings. Then Saturday, they will face off against R.V. College of Idaho (9-2), who currently own the top spot in the CCC.
