Tech Comes from Behind to Take Over 1st in CCC

CALDWELL, Idaho – (RV) Oregon Tech (10-2, 7-1 CCC) took over the top spot in the Cascade Conference on Saturday evening coming from behind against (RV) College of Idaho (10-4, 7-2), to pick up a 3-1 win, sending the Owls to the top of the table. The victory for Tech gives them a three-point cushion over College of Idaho, Corban, Eastern and Southern Oregon.

"The women had to battle tonight against a very good college of Idaho team," said head coach Casey Tate.  "The character and heart of our team was tested going down 1-0 on the road, but they responded by sticking together and giving everything for each other. It's a group of student athletes that will do anything for the success of the group. They truly are a Family. Now we need to recover and get ready for a very difficult weekend ahead."

It was a truly balanced match, but for the second night in a row, the Lady Owls made their opponents pay by converting some high-quality opportunities.

Tech would begin the match going down a goal, as the 'Yotes were able to score against the run of play. Tech had been the stronger side leading up to that point, but College of Idaho caught the Lady Owls asleep and converted on their first real opportunity of the night.

From that point on though, Tech would begin the climb back.

Just six minutes later, Kiah Wetzell found herself in the right place at the right time. Wetzell watched a shot from Amanda Seward deflect right into her path, which she then calmly slotted home to knot the score.

Mehana Ortiz wasn't too far behind Wetzell and in the 40th minute, gave Tech the lead.

Ortiz collected a College of Idaho goal kick, immediately took a touch and rippled the back of the net, capitalizing off of the 'Yotes mistake.

From that point the game was pretty even but Tech remained in control.

College of Idaho generated their chances, but Tech would slam the door in the 75th minute.

Mehana Ortiz slipped a through ball to Nyah Kendall who scored on the counter-attack for her fourth goal of the season.

Kendall's goal sealed the deal and all three points, capping off an incredible weekend for the program.

Tech finished the match slightly outshooting the 'Yotes by a margin of 14-13, and 6-5 in shots on frame.

Unlike the men's game, this one was fairly clean, and neither side was shown a card.

All focus will now shift to next week as Tech will face Corban and Bushnell with an opportunity to solidify their place atop the CCC Standings.
