Klamath Falls, OR -- #23 Oregon Tech (11-2) strengthened their hold on 1st place in the CCC with a 2-0 victory over Corban (11-3) on Friday afternoon. Tech bagged two late goals from
Kiah Wetzell and
Sylvia Sloss to move within a few games of clinching the regular season conference title.
Â
"Great overall team effort today," said head coach
Casey Tate. "We had to battle all game against a good Corban team to find a way to win. Two huge goals in the second half and our defense did a very good job of limiting an efficient Corban offense. We need to dig deep for another tough game tomorrow and try and send our seniors out with a win."
Â
In a game that looked destined to be a scoreless draw, two late goals grabbed all three points for Oregon Tech.
Â
As Corban just started to get back into the game, Tech's
Kiah Wetzell broke through in the 83rd minute.
Â
After a ball slipped into her path, Wetzell broke away and slid the ball past the charging Corban keeper to put her team ahead.
Â
The goal was a long time coming for a Tech side who had ripped 14 shots at the visiting Warriors prior to the goal.
Â
Just a few minutes after Wetzell broke through,
Sylvia Sloss may have had the goal of the season for Tech, curling the ball into the top left corner off a free-kick from about 22 yards out. Her shot left the Corban keeper with little to no chance and sealed up all three points for the Owls.
Â
With the victory, the Owls find themselves in sole possession of first place in the CCC with just three games to play. If Tech can take care of business they will wrap up the regular season title.
Â
The Owls finished the match outshooting Corban 16-11, and 7-5 in shots on goal.
Â
Tech will return to action when they host Bushnell University on senior day tomorrow at 2:30 pm with chance to pull even closer to the CCC title.
