Oregon Tech Bags Late Winner Move into 1st

CALDWELL, Idaho – (RV) Oregon Tech (13-1) strengthened their hold on 1st place in the CCC with a 1-0 victory at College of Idaho (6-4-1) on Saturday afternoon. Tech was able to grab a late winner through an 82nd-minute goal from Anthony Santillan (Pictured) With both sides being reduced to ten men, the goal for Tech put them three points clear of Corban with three games to play.

"This win was all the heart of these young men," said head coach Casey Tate.  "They believed in each other and never gave up. Very proud to be the coach of these student-athletes. Have to stay focused and get ready for a very difficult weekend next week."

It was an aggressive match on both ends, as a physical tempo was established from the opening kick.

However, tempers wouldn't boil over until the 39th minute where an altercation got the 'Yotes a yellow card, and Tech's Jack Warner, a red.

Reduced to ten men, Tech was still able to control the remainder of the first half, going into the break having generated the better chances.

At the half, Tech had out-shot the 'Yotes 11-3, forcing the hosts to make some critical saves.

In the second half, the College of Idaho generated more chances, but the score still remained knotted at zero.

With Tech playing 10v11, they received a lifeline in the 70th minute when College of Idaho received a red card reducing them to ten men as well.

Just ten minutes later, Anthony Santillan would get on the scoresheet for Tech in dramatic fashion as the junior even received a yellow card for his celebrations.

The goal for Tech buried the hosts and with nine minutes remaining, the Owls rode out the momentum to pick up a 1-0 victory.

The match ended with Tech outshooting the 'Yotes 18-12. And 6-2 in shots on frame.

In a physical match, the two sides tallied up a combined 30 fouls.

With the weekend sweep over COI and EOU, Tech will surely jump into the Top 25 ahead of their huge match with (RV) Corban (9-4) on Friday at 12:00 PM at the OIT Soccer Field. The Owls are currently in first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings, with Southern Oregon and Corban tied for second-place —just one game back of first-place OIT.
