LC-State Takes Down Hustlin’ Owls

LEWISTON, Idaho. –  Oregon Tech (4-18, 0-6 NAIA-W) dropped two NAIA-West games on Sunday afternoon at Harris Field as Lewis-Clark State College (13-5, 8-2 NAIA-W) took a 5-1 victory in the opener and a 13-0 shutout in a 7-inning nightcap game.

The first game opened in the second with a home run from the Warrior's Luke White that gave the team the lead. Two additional runs in the fifth put Lewis-Clark up three, and a single run from the Owls in the eighth was countered by a two-run double from LCS in the bottom of the inning.
 
Alex Malcolm hit three for Tech and batted in their sole run. Hayden Vandehey notched two hits, and Neal Rose, Josiah Peterson, and McKinnon Bennett each added a single hit.
 
Riley Way and Caden Goldby each hit two for Lewis-Clark State and Brock Ephan batted in two runs.
 
Oregon Tech's Zach Scherman struck out five in the game, but the Warrior's Eric Chavarria claimed the win to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Compared to the first game the second was a slugfest in favor of Lewis-Clark, with pitcher Brooks Juhasz striking out four to shutout the Owls while the team's offense came in at full force.
 
The Warriors scored a single run in the second before adding eight in the third to rise to a nine-point lead. A homer from Brock Ephan put the team at 10 runs in the fourth and the team was able to earn three more runs before the game ended in the seventh on the mercy rule.
 
Dalton Harum batted in three runs for Lewis-Clark State College and A.J. Davis batted in two. Zach Needham scored three runs and Ephan, White, and Way each scored two.
 
Josh Overstreet, Vandehey, and Peterson each notched a single hit for the Owls in the loss.
 
The Hustlin' Owls will get another shot at the Warriors tomorrow, with games at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm in a second NAIA-West doubleheader. The team will then travel to Caldwell, Idaho to take on College of Idaho next Saturday and Sunday before returning for their first home series on the 21st.
