Owls Battle, but Fall Twice to LC-State

LEWISTON, Idaho. – Oregon Tech (4-20, 0-8 NAIA-W) dropped two games to Lewis-Clark State College (15-5, 10-2 NAIA-W) in NAIA-West matchups Monday afternoon, losing 13-7 in the opening game and 10-4 in the second game.

The Hustlin' Owls kicked things off in the first inning with two runs, but the Warriors responded with a seven-spot in the bottom of the second, aided by a three-run home. Tech's Emmett Covello (pictured coming around third) slammed a two-run homer for the Owls in the third, but the team struggled against Lewis-Clark's powerful offense.  
 
Aiden Nagle hit a home run for LCSC in the bottom of the third to put them at eight. Tech continued to battle, scoring three runs over the next four innings, but the Warriors added three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to take the game.
 
McKinnon Bennett led the Owls with three hits and three runs and Covello batted in two on two hits. Josiah Peterson batted in two runs in the game.
 
Warrior pitcher Jesse Parker recorded his fourth win in the game, striking out seven, and Cameron Smith struck out four.
 
The Owls left seven on base in the loss and were outhit 13-9.

The second game stayed close. A two-run homer for LC State in the first inning sent them to the lead, but the Hustlin' Owls scored three over the next three innings to earn the lead for themselves.
 
The Warriors tied things up with a run in the fourth and then took the lead on a home run before Tech tied things up again in the seventh. Lewis-Clark took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning, scoring three to lead 7-4 and scoring three more in the bottom of the eighth to finish the game.
 
Neal Rose, Michael Tarakhchyan, Hayden Vandehey, and Covello each scored a single hit in the game for the Owls.
 
LC State's Greg Blackman recorded the win.
 
The Hustlin' Owls will travel to Caldwell, Idaho to take on College of Idaho next weekend, with NAIA-West games at 11:00 am on Saturday and 10:00 am on Sunday. The team will return for their home opener the following weekend March 21 & 22 against Corban University.
