No.8 Lady Owls Open CCC Play with Split at No.24 Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 8 Lady Owls of opened up Cascade Conference play with a 9-1 game 1 win over No. 24 Corban University but had to settle for the split as they lost game 2 by a final of 12-8 at Warrior Field on Friday afternoon.

"I was really happy with the way we made adjustments all day long at the plate," said head coach Greg Stewart. "We saw different pitchers throughout the double header and hit the ball really well (29 hits total).
We pitched good in game 1, but unfortunately just gave up a couple of big innings in game two."

Oregon Tech (7-5, 1-1 CCC) scored seven runs in the final two innings and Sarah Abramson was brilliant in game one in the circle leading the Owls to its 9-1 series-opening win over No. 24 Corban (3-5, 1-1 CCC). Abramson allowed just three hits and one run in her complete-game victory.
 
The Owls out-hit the Warriors 16-3 in the game, led by Kaila Mick who had 3-hits with Olivia Lethlean, Aubrie Businger, McKenna Armantrout, Brianna Griffiths and Shelby Hotchkiss adding 2-hits each in the win.

Tech's Mackenzie Driscoll hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 5th to tie the game at five.  Corban then took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the inning on a solo homer. The Owls went up 7-6 with two runs in the sixth only to see the Warriors score 6-runs in the bottom of the 6th as they took advantage of 2-walks, a hit batter and two doubles. The Owls rallied in the 7th, scoring 1-run on a Griffiths RBI double before falling by the 12-8 score.
 
The Owls had a 13-12 advantage in hits in the game.
 
Mick once again led the Owls with three hits with Neenah Pangilinan, Driscoll and Hotchkiss adding 2-hits in the loss.
 
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:00 am in Salem. Game one tomorrow will be a conference game with game two a non-conference game.

Oregon Tech will have their home opener next weekend February 28 and 29 against College of Idaho with Friday's doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm at John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.
