ATHERTON, Calif. – The #8 ranked Lady Owls (6-4) dropped two games to Menlo College (7-5) on Sunday afternoon, with an extra inning deciding a close 3-2 battle in game one and a 7-3 loss in the nightcap.
"Those were two tough losses today including another extra inning loss where we got great pitching," said Head Coach
Greg Stewart. "We had some good opportunities in game 1 to put it out of reach but just could not get that timely hit. We have some things to improve on, but this team will work hard and start putting runs on the board."
Game 1 Menlo University 3 Oregon Tech 2
Oregon Tech opened up strong in the first game, batting in a single run in the first inning and following that with a home run from
Neenah Pangilinan (pictured) in the top of the third to earn a 2-0 lead.
The Oaks came back over the next few innings, scoring runs in the fourth and sixth to tie things up. The tie held to the eighth inning, when the Owls were stopped with two left on base. A single run for Menlo was all they needed as they cruised to the win.
Pangilinan,
Emily McAdams,
McKenna Armantrout, and
Kaila Mick each notched two hits in the loss and Armantrout and Pangilinan each batted in a run.
The Lady Owls outhit the Oaks 10-7, but both teams struggled to score a strong hit, with Menlo leaving 11 on base and Tech leaving 10.
Tech pitchers
Lilly Poe and McAdams struck out four each.
Game 2 Menlo University 7 Oregon Tech 3
The second game kicked into gear in the third inning as the Owls batted in three in a row. However, Menlo College countered immediately after, scoring three runs of their own to tie things up.
The Oaks picked up two more runs in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth, securing their advantage as OIT was held scoreless.
The Lady Owls will kick of Cascade Conference play next weekend, with doubleheaders against Corban University on Friday and Saturday in Salem, Oregon. Friday's games will start at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and Saturday's games kick off at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
