Fink Scores Triple-Double as Owls Drop Wolves

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Senior and 1st Team All-American Mitchell Fink had a triple-double at halftime on Saturday night at Danny Miles Court and No.12 Oregon Tech (22-6, 12-6 CCC) didn't look back, taking down Walla Walla University (6-22, 4-14 CCC) 104-63 to sweep the weekend.

"That was an outstanding effort on both ends of the floor tonight," said head coach Justin Parnell. "I thought we shared the ball really well and that was evident in our 25 assists."

The win sends the Owls past Northwest University into third place in regular season Cascade Conference standings, and secures OIT of a home playoff game to start the CCC Playoffs on Wednesday, February  26 at 7:00 PM.

Tech opened the first half with an 18-4 run and an early advantage, scoring 16-4 runs on two separate occasions throughout the rest of the period to expand the lead further – eventually ending the half on a 28-point advantage, 54-26.

The Wolves picked up their game in the second half, scoring an 18-4 run after Zayne Brown kicked things off with back-to-back three-pointers. The Owls didn't let that bring them down, surging on an 11-0 run of their own to bring the lead to 28 once again and eventually expanded to the 41-point win.

Sophomore Matt Van Tassell led the Hustlin' Owls, scoring a career-high 26 points with seven rebounds. Junior Harrison Steiger followed close behind with 20, and Fink scored 17 points, 10 boards, 12 assists, and three steals in his triple-double effort. Junior Scotty Burge and senior Garrett Albrecht each tallied 14, with Burge scoring 4-of-6 from long range.

Walla Walla was led by Zayne Browning, who scored a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, making 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Dylan Browning notched 17 more and KiAndre Gaddy scored 11 before fouling out.

The Owls held a 41-26 rebounding advantage and a 25-9 assisting lead. OIT forced 11 turnovers while only committing eight and converted those turnovers into 20 additional points.

Oregon Tech also led 52-30 in the paint and 13-9 from the bench.

The Hustlin' Owls will play their final two regular season games next weekend, taking on Warner Pacific University on Friday night during the Black Out for Hunger and Multnomah University Saturday for Senior Night, with both games taking place at 7:30 pm at Danny Miles Court.
