Logan Nunes hit three home runs and
Sarah Abramson won both games in the circle to lead the No.10 ranked Oregon Tech (37-12, 22-4 CCC) Owls to a doubleheader sweep, 8-5, and 9-2 Friday afternoon over Eastern Oregon University (12-31, 7-19 CCC)
GAME 1 | No. 10 Oregon Tech 8, Eastern Oregon 5
The Mountaineers began the game scoring one run in the first inning off of a wild pitch to grab an early 1-0 lead. Oregon Tech then responded in the next two innings, scoring one run in the second inning off of a home run from
Cierra Barkis and two more runs in the third on a home run from by Andrea Sotelo to go ahead 3-1.
EOU answered in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-2.
In the top of the fourth, the Owls continued to put the pressure on the Mountaineer offense by scoring two more runs off a single by Mckenna Armantrout.
The Mountaineers responded again, scoring two runs of their own on a home run from Rayne Spencer, cutting the OIT led to 5-4.
Oregon Tech found a way to distance themselves in the top of the fifth,
Logan Nunes homered to left field, driving in two runs and giving OIT a 7-4 lead. In the sixth inning, the Owls added one more run off of a Barkis sacrifice fly to make the score 8-4.
The Mountaineers got their final run in the seventh, as senior Shevan DeFreitas drove home senior Brandi Bowling with a single. However, EOU could not score any more and fell to OIT 8-5 in game one.
Armantrout had two-hits to lead the Owls as
Sarah Abramson picked up the win in the circle to improve to 18-4.
Game 2 | No. 10 Oregon Tech 9, Eastern Oregon 2
The second game was a pitching duel between EOU's Lauren Spencer and Oregon Tech's Abramson through the first four innings, as the game was scoreless. In the top of the fifth, the Owls broke through with the first run when Nunes lead off the inning with a solo home run to center field. After a costly error, Tech's
Kiahna Brown doubled down the right field line to score another runner. A batter later,
Ali Graham singled to left field, pushing OIT's lead to 3-0.
EOU battled back in the bottom of the fifth as Rayne Spencer continued her hot bat with a double to center field, scoring junior Jordan Henley to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Sophomore Amanda Smith shutdown the Owl offense in the sixth as the score remained 3-1 heading to the seventh.
However, in the top of the seventh, the Owls broke out for six more runs beginning with a single from Armantrout. In the next at bat, Graham homered to left field, driving in two more runs, pushing OIT's lead to 6-1. A few batters later, Nunes hit her third homer of the day to deep left field, driving in the final three runs of the inning and giving Oregon Tech a 9-1 lead.
Eastern Oregon got a run in the bottom half of the seventh inning with a solo home run from senior Hannah Rothwell, but it was too little, too late as the Mounties fell 9-2.
Brown led the Owls with three-hits while Graham, Armantrout, Sotello, Barkis, and Nunes had two-hits each.
The two teams will conclude the series on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 11:00 am.
