Hustlin’ Owls Swept by #5 Warriors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – No. 5 ranked Westmont University (17-2) took down Oregon Tech (6-15) 5-1 and 9-1 on Saturday at Russ Carr Field to earn their sixth straight win.

The Warriors took an early lead as Isaiah Leach batted in a run in the bottom of the second. Tech followed with a Kai Fong single scoring Cole Walter to tie the score 1-1.
 
From there things went downhill for the Owls as Leach batted in two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with the Warriors adding 2-runs in the seventh bringing the game to the final 5-1 loss.
 
OIT had 11 hits in the game, with Micah Jio contributing three and Fong, Josh Kallstrom, and Walter each adding two. The Owls lacked a much-needed big hit however, as 12 runners were left stranded throughout the game.
 
Game 2 Westmont 9 Oregon Tech 1
 
Westmont started out strong in the second game of the day, with a Luke Coffey homer giving them three runs in the first. The number increased to five as Travis Vander Molen batted in two more to end the inning.
 
An Austin Zavala double in the top of the second brought the game to 5-1 as Tristan Shea scored, but the gain was canceled out by a WC run in the bottom of the inning.
 
Two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for the Warriors gave them an eight-run advantage they held until the end of the game.
 
Cory Dawson pitched for Westmont, striking out eight Owls in the course for the win.
 
WC outhit Oregon Tech 14-5 in the game.
 
The Hustlin' Owls will finish their four-game series at Westmont College on Sunday, with games taking place at 11:00am and 2:00pm before heading back to Klamath Falls to take on University of British Columbia for their home opener, with games at 12:00pm and 3:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am and 2:00pm on Sunday at Kiger Stadium.
