Jio Homer Not Enough as Warriors Complete Weekend Sweep

SANTA BARBARA, Cal. – Oregon Tech (6-17) fell in their second double-header against Westmont University (19-2) as the No. 5 ranked team blocked out the Owls to win 7-0 and 8-3 on Sunday at Russ Carr Field, claiming their eighth straight win.

Game 1 Westmont 7 Oregon Tech 0

OIT struggled to score in the first game of the day as the Warrior's Justin Sanders struck out eight over seven frames. Westmont scored a homer from Luke Coffey and Sage Pera in the first and seventh, respectively as well as three-runs in the third and another two in the 4th and 7th.

Tech managed nine hits in the game, only slightly behind WU's 14. Kai Fong and Josh Kallstrom added two each, and Austin Zavala notched a double.

The Owls managed to strand 10 of the Warriors baserunners, though nine of their own were stranded as well.

Game 2 Westmont 8 Oregon Tech 3

Oregon Tech started strong in the second game as a home run from Micah Jio in the top of the first gave them a 2-0 lead, scoring Fong.

However, a strong second inning for WC changed the tide, as Pera batted in a run and a Taylor Bush double scored two more. A third run brought the game to 2-4, and the Warriors took another three in the following innings before Jio was able to hit in another run for OIT in the fifth.

At that point the damage was done, as the Hustlin' Owls were held without a run in the final two innings.

Tech had eight hits in the loss, with Fong and Jio each going 3-for-4.

The Hustlin' Owls will head back to Klamath Falls to take on University of British Columbia for their home opener, with games at 12:00pm and 3:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am and 2:00pm on Sunday at Kiger Stadium.
