ASHLAND, Ore. – Senior
Chase Bohman combined for 50 kills in two matches leading the Oregon Tech volleyball team to a split at the Southern Oregon Invite. After OIT downed Simpson to start the day, it was Lewis and Clark State that outlasted the Owls in the night cap snapping Tech's five game win streak as the Hooter move to 5-2 on the year.
"We ended with a long game for a long week, said Head Coach
Andrew Clifton. "The Simpson match was up and down for us and we learned if we can cut some errors down we can control a match. Our freshman also took some bumps and bruises along the way learning to play the game at a higher level but there is still a lot of growth and a lot more room to grow. LC State played a smart match and we were missing both Bella Foss and
Nicole Reyes both out with concussions. This put a lot more pressure on other players to step up. I thought
Kayley Andersen did a great job filling in that roll and
Chase Bohman helped hold things together for us on offense. We also got a big game at the net with
Faith Houck-Wylie's block. She made it tough for LC States outside hitters. We will get back in the gym on Monday to work out some kinks and get on the road for a long C of I, EOU, and Walla Walla trip. It should be an exciting season."
Match 1 – Oregon Tech 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 25-27, 25-9) over Simpson University
Oregon Tech extended its win streak to five in a row with a four set win over the Red Hawks of Simpson University
.
Bohman had 24 kills with
Camryn Johnson powering in 13 kills and Freshman
Faith Houck-Wylie adding 8 kills in powering the Hooter to the win.
Tech's defense was tough with a season high 9-blocks led by Freshman
Melody Edwards who had seven. Fellow Freshman
Lindsey Sampson held the back-line down with a game high 28 digs.
Sophomore
Jaime Toedtemeier had a great match with 51 assists for the Owls.
Tech's added to its ace total on the year with 11 more in the match led by
Nicole Reyes with four and Toedtemeier with three.
Match 2 – LC State 3-2 (22-25, 26-28, 25-15, 26-24, and 17-15) over Oregon Tech
In a five-set thriller, it was Lewis-Clark State coming from behind to down Oregon Tech three sets to two and snapping the Owls' five-game win streak.
Tech took the first two sets 25-22 and 28-26 but the Warriors were not fazed as they rallied to take the next two sets 25-15 and 26-24 to force the decisive fifth and final set. Tech stormed out to an 11-7 lead in the race to fifteen but once again LC-State came back to win 10 of 14 points on the way to the 17-15 win.
Bohman added a game high 26 kills in a losing effort for Oregon Tech as the rest of the Owls struggled to finish plays with team kill percentage of just .040 while LC-State hit .370, .256 and .333 in the final three sets to finish with a kill percentage of .185.
Tech's Houck-Wylie was huge at the nest with 9-blocks of a season high 14 for the game for OIT.
