KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- No. 7 Lewis-Clark State scored early and often as they won the first game of a five game series over Oregon Tech 19-3 at Kiger Stadium. The win by LC-State was their 31
st in a row over OIT who had won a season high seven straight heading into the series opener.
LC was the home team in the game that was originally scheduled for Lewiston, Idaho last month but was rained out and re-scheduled for today.
After Tech went down in order in the first, the Warriors jumped out with four runs on four hits including a Raymond Pedrina home run, his fourth of the year.
LC added four more runs in the bottom of the second inning on five straight hits, highlighted by a Kasey Bailey double.
The Warriors added a run in the fourth to go up 9-0.
OIT broke through on the scoreboard with a run in the fifth on three straight hits to cut the lead to 9-1.
The Warriors then put up three more runs in bottom of the fifth as Bailey hit his third double of the game to help LC to a 12-1 lead. LC added a run in the 6
th and three in the 7
th to go up 16-1.
Tech hit back-to-back home runs by
Josh Kallstrom and Austin Zavalla to cut the lead to 16-3. For Kallstrom it was his NAIA-West leading 11
th homer on the year.
LC State then tacked on three more runs in the 8
th to win 19-3.
The Warriors out-hit the Owls 26-13 setting a season high for the Warriors. It was also the fourth highest ever in school history.
The two teams will continue the series Sunday and Monday with double headers scheduled for noon and 11:00 am respectively at Kiger Stadium.
