Owls Stay Close in Game Two Against NAIA West Leaders

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Tech men's baseball team fell to the NAIA West leaders, Lewis-Clark State College, on day-two of a three-day series. The two teams saw a total of 39 runs scored between the two games, while game two saw action at the plate from both teams.

Game 1 –

The Warriors of LCSC started out the scoring in the first inning, driving in 2-runs. The first, begin earned on an errand throw by the defense, while a single sent a runner home from 2nd base.

Tech responded right away, as Austin Zavala singled to right field, to advance Justin Jordan to third base, as a bath throw by the visitors, would see Jordan sent home for the RBI.

In the second inning, Tech tied the game up, seeing Ryan Riepma score from second base on a fielder's choice error by the LCSC second baseman, before a double-play ball ended the inning.

LCSC pushed ahead in the top of the third with a double down the left field line, and following that with a shot over the wall, driving in 3 RBIs by Thomas Lampkin.

Tech would give up one more run in the sixth, to end the contest 7-2.

Tyler Burch picked up the win on the mound for the Warriors, throwing all 9 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits.

Doug Molzahn tossed 6 innings for the Owls, while Brooks Hanson closed out the game with the last 3 innings.
 
Game 2 –

The Owls came out and shocked the visitors, as they combined for 10 runs in the second and third innings, while giving up just 1 run, a solo homerun, to their opponents.

3 runs scored in the bottom of the 2nd inning, seeing Alex Poltz, Ryan Riepma and Michael Tarakhchyan all score, while Micah Jio and Justin Jordan picked up RBIs.

The bottom of the third saw Tech explode at the plate, batting through the order and driving home 7 runs. Austin Zavala, Riepma, Jio, Austin Flores, Blake Wrotenberry, Josh Kallstrom and Justin Jordan all scored, while Poltz picked up 2 RBIs before the inning came to an end.

???????LSCS responded in the top of the fourth, pouring on 8 runs, seeing Kyle Callahan pick up 3 RBIs on a homerun. One run was earned by Tech as Jio scored on a wild pitch, as the inning closed with a score of 11-9 for Tech.

The top of the fifth inning brought the score level at 11-11, with 2 runs crossing on a homerun by Raymond Pedrina.

With the game changing hands in the sixth inning, as LCSC outscored Tech 2-1, the visitors took the lead by 1 run. Making the game feel even further out of reach, the visitors added 3 security runs split between the top of the eighth and ninth innings.

Austin Zavala gave the Owls hope, as he smashed a fastball over the fence for a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the ninth. With the game tying run on 1st base and the winning run at the plate, Emmitt Covello saw the last at bat, as he struck out to heat from the mound to end the contest 16-14 in favor os the LCSC Warriors.

A rare performance of note on the LCSC side, was Tyler McDowell, as he hit for the cycle, hitting a single, double, triple and homerun in the game.

The two teams will face off again on Monday, with the final double header of the series, the first pitch to be thrown at 11:00am at Kiger Stadium.
