ALAMEDA, Calif. – Holy Names (2-4) out-slugged Oregon Tech (8-11) Sunday afternoon 14-10 to take the rubber game of the three game series at Pat Bail Field.
A day after the two teams combined for only 10-runs over two games, Sunday's finally was an offensive juggernaut.
OIT jumped out to the early lead scoring 3-runs on 2-hits in the top of the first inning highlighted by a
Ryan Riepma double.
Not to be out-done, HNU scored 4-runs in the bottom of the inning on 5-hits including two-doubles and a triple.
Tech took the lead back 6-4 with three more runs in the top of the second on a
Kai Fong triple and
Austin Zavala double.
Holy Names added a run in the bottom of the second to cut the gap to 6-5.
OIT added 1-run in the 3
rd on a
Justin Jordan double, 1-unearned run in the 4
th, and another unearned run in the 5
th to go up 9-5.
HNU answered with 6-runs in the 5
th and 3-runs in 7
th to win going away 14-10.
Fong led the Owls with 2-hits, 3-runs scored and an RBI in the loss.
The Owls will begin NAIA-West play when they travel to Salem, Oregon to begin a 5-game series against Corban University next Friday at 5:00 pm.
