KEIZER, Ore. – The Corban University baseball team started off the 2018 conference campaign with a bang on Friday, winning both games over Oregon Tech to register the day-one sweep. After claiming the opener, 4-0, Corban then came from behind to win in 10 innings in the nightcap, 2-1.
The Oregon Tech Baseball team began CCC action this weekend with a trip to Corban University. The Owls dropped both games of the double header on Friday, falling in game one by a score of 4-0, and in game two with a score of 2-1.
In game one, starting pitcher,
Doug Molzahn threw 7 innings, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 8 batters.
The Owls offense was limited by Corban pitcher Kris Jackson, who threw all 9 innings, as Tech was only able to find 2 hits in the contest, while
Kai Fong earned a base on balls.
The Warriors found their bats in the 4
th inning, where they brought in 3 of their 4 runs.
James Bedortha and
Josh Davis closed out the game for the Owls on the mound.
In the second game of the day, the Owls scored on a sacrifice fly in the 2
nd inning by
Austin Florez, seeing
Ryan Riepma score. The Warriors would tie the game up in the 6
th inning, with an RBI single from Jarett Thoren, scoring David Yoppini.
The two runs were all the game would see through the first 9 innings, sending the contest into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10
th, with no outs and the bases loaded, Corban pinch hitter, Cloe Foley hit the game-winning RBI single to left field, scoring Andrew Axmaker from third base to win the game in walk-off fashion.
Tech pitcher,
Chase Wago tossed 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6 batters.
Trask Telesmanich,
Ronnie Red and
Logan Nousen closed out the game on the mound for Tech.
The win would be credited to relief pitcher Jackson Arnsdorf of Corban.
Corban (10-8, 2-0 NAIA-West) and Oregon Tech (8-13, 0-2 NAIA-West) will square off on Saturday for another conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for 11 a.m.
