KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Two goals midway through the second half was enough for Southern Oregon, as the Raiders topped Oregon Tech, 2-0, to spoil the Lady Owls home opener.
Macie Yannoni and Ava Johnson scored for the Raiders (6-0-2, 3-0 CCC), who ran a regular-season unbeaten streak to 12 with their first win in the Basin in a decade.
An even game throughout, SOU held a slight 11-10 edge in total shots, with OIT (4-4, 1-2) keeper
Elle Hillar making five saves, including three in the opening 45 minutes, helping keep the game scoreless.
Southern struck first in the 62nd minute, as Yannoni collected a loose ball just outside the box, made a move to her left, and hit a left-footed shot into the top shelf.
The Lady Owls had a pair of chances to tie, as
Olivia Mendoza lined a one-hooper that was stopped by Raiders keeper Ashlyn Fuss in the 69th minute, with Mendoza chipping a shot just wide a minute later. Fuss made a match-high six saves to earn a shutout.
SOU put the game out of reach in the 73rd minute, as Johnson had a chance blocked, but the rebound played to her feet, launching a low liner into the corner of the net for the two- goal lead.
Both teams stay in the area next week, hosting Rocky Mountain and Carroll in Cascade Conference games.
