MESA, Ariz. – Freshman keeper
Noah Harwood made three key saves while playing a man-down over the final 22 minutes, helping Oregon Tech play Benedictine Mesa to a 2-2 draw.
The Redhawks (0-1-1) had the run of play over the final 20-plus minutes, but Harwood was a stone wall – allowing OIT to extend an August win streak to 12 games.
"It was a hard battled match," said OIT head coach
Sean McManamon. "Felt like we had a tough first half but made adjustments after the break to give us more looks. Going down a man is tough, but we battled through and earned a point."
Tech (1-0-1) opened the scoring in the fourth minute, as
Cannon Spooner played ball to
Eric McGuire, who calmly finished to give the Owls a lead. Shay Carey answered, scoring on BenU's first shot of the day to square the match.
The Owls regained the lead early in the second half, as
Kevin Alvarenga touched home a pass in the box and slotted the ball past the keeper. Koby Beckquick evened the match in the 52nd minute and following the send off, BenU had the run of play – but Harwood was up to the task.
BenU had a 15-8 edge in shots and had six corner kicks, while Harwood led all players with six saves.
OIT closes out the road swing Sunday at Embry-Riddle.
