Lady Owls Complete 4-0 Trip to California

FULLERTON, Calif. – Oregon Tech completed an undefeated trip to Orange County, picking up two 3-set victories today at the Hope International SummerSlam inside Darling Pavilion.
 
The Lady Owls (5-2) cruised to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-13 victory over host HIU, before stopping Life Pacific, 25-19, 26-24, 25-15.
 
MATCH 1 – Kaliko Schilling flirted with a triple-double, recording 12 kills, 11 digs and a season-high seven aces in the straight set win. Alexa Gugliotta recorded 10 kills, with both Laci Hoylman and Steffini Goss adding eight.
 
The Royals (0-5) pulled out to a 15-12 lead in Set 1, but Aleksen Thayer combined on two blocks in a 5-point run to grab the lead and Schilling powered down two kills to stretch the margin to 22-18, easing to the set win.
 
Set 2 was tight, with the two sides tied at 20-20, before a Hoylman stuff block started an OIT 5-0 run to end the set.
 
OIT put Set 3 away early, as Schilling had three aces and both Goss and Gugliotta added two kills in a 14-2 run to start the frame.
 
Taryn Ramsay had 37 assists, helping the attack swing at a .327 percentage. Kaley Whalen led all players with 18 digs.
 
MATCH 2 – Tech held the Warriors (2-5) to a .021 hitting percentage and recorded an 11-2 edge in blocks in the victory.
 
LPU opened a 16-13 lead in Set 1, but OIT scored 12 of the final 15 points to take the frame – with Schilling and Hoylman recording two kills and Sumerlyn Spencer posted two aces in the run.
 
The Owls carried the momentum to a 15-9 lead in the middle set, but the Warriors got three aces in a 13-5 run to steal a 22-20 edge. Tech weathered the storm, getting a pair of combo blocks from Thayer and Ramsay to power a 6-2 run to end the set.
 
Tech was never headed in Set 3, jumping to a 10-2 lead and completed the set sweep.
 
Goss had 11 kills, Schilling 10, with Hoylman finishing with eight kills and three blocks. Thayer recorded five blocks, Ramsay had 33 assists and Whalen ended with 18 digs.
 
OIT closes out the non-league slate next Saturday, hosting Simpson at 2 p.m.
