KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Kristine Schmidt tossed a 2-hit shutout in Game 1 and
Puakea Milbourne hit a pair of home runs late in the afternoon, as No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech served up a sweep of Southern Oregon on Senior Day, topping their rivals 3-0 and 9-1 at Stilwell Stadium.
OIT (36-4, 18-2 CCC) moved two games clear of Eastern Oregon atop the league standings and eliminated SOU from the championship race, holding the defending national champs to four hits on the afternoon.
The opener was delayed by over an hour due to lightning, with the Raiders (29-11, 10-7) having chances out of the break - stranding a runner at second in the second, third and fourth innings. Schmidt took over from there – retiring the final 12 batters in order to close out her fourth shutout of 2026.
Facing reigning NAIA Pitcher of the Year, Ayla Davies, Tech broke through in their fourth, as
Addison Kachnik clubbed a solo homer off the scoreboard in right-center to break the scoreless tie. Milbourne followed by reaching on an error, moved to second on a passed ball and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from
Sawyer Stenson.
An inning later,
Brooklyn Loose led off with a single and eventually scored on a
Nita Cook bloop single – capping the scoring.
Schmidt struck out a season-high 11 batters in the win, with six different OIT batters recording a hit.
Game 2 featured more offense – as the Lady Owls plated three first inning runs, as Cook scored on a wild throw on a
Malia Mick single, with Milbourne making it 3-0 with an opposite field 2-run blast.
The Raiders got a run back in their second, as Cici Kim lined a 2-out RBI single to right – but SOU did not record a hit the rest of the afternoon.
Cook made it 4-1 in the second with an RBI double and added a second RBI in the fourth with a bases loaded walk. The Owls won the game due to the mercy rule in the fifth, as Milbourne golfed a home run to center, just out of the reach of SOU center fielder Ari Williams. Following a hit-by-pitch to Stenson and a walk to
Maggie Pizano, Loose ended the game with one swing, blasting a 3-run homer to right field.
Alli Parker remained unbeaten on the season, allowing just two hits and a walk, striking out four to improve to 12-0. Milbourne and Loose were both 2-for-3 with three RBI in the win.
Following the game, the nine seniors on the OIT team were honored in a special ceremony.
The two teams close out the 4-game series on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
