Lady Owls Rebound, Earn Road Win at Bushnell, 66-53

EUGENE, Ore. – Olivia Sprague scored seven of her 17 points in a late 9-2 run, helping Oregon Tech outlast Bushnell, 66-53, inside Morse Event Center.

The Lady Owls (16-8, 12-4 CCC) made 15-of-22 field goals in the second half to complete a season sweep of the Beacons.

OIT built a 34-20 lead early in the third quarter, but BU (6-18, 4-12) got consecutive 3-pointers from Sabrina Flowers to cut the deficit to 36-30. Enter Tatum Schmerbach, as Tech's leading scorer scored 10-straight points for the Lady Owls, with a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter pushing the lead back to 46-34.

The Beacons had one final run, getting three buckets from Ellis Mastel, cutting the gap to 47-44, but Sprague converted in the paint, splashed a 15-footer and delivered a key 3-point play to extend the margin to 59-48 and the Owls coasted the rest of the way.

Schmerbach had 21 points and nine rebounds – her 30th-straight game with 10-or-more points. Kendall Fealey scored seven points – all in the fourth quarter – adding six assists and six steals.

Mastel led BU with 16 points in the loss, with Ayden Krupke and Maddie Gerhart each scoring 10.

The Lady Owls have a quick turnaround, hosting rival Southern Oregon on Tuesday night in the 13th Annual Blackout for Hunger game – with the first 1,000 fans making a donation of food or any monetary value to the Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank receiving a commemorative Blackout t-shirt.
