CALDWELL, Idaho – Needing a victory to keep their Cascade Conference title hopes alive, Oregon Tech ran into an offensive buzzsaw in College of Idaho, as the Yotes connected on 60% of their field goals in an 87-64 victory inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Utrillo Morris scored a career-high 31 points for C of I (19-8, 14-5 CCC), who pulled into a 3-way tie with Tech and Southern Oregon in the league standings – a game back of LC State and Eastern Oregon heading into the final night of the regular-season.
Jackson Cooper scored 24 points with eight rebounds for the Hustlin' Owls (19-8, 14-5), who travel to EOU tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Two big runs changed the complexion of the contest – a 14-2 first half run by the Yotes, including long 3's as the shot clock expired from Dougie Peoples and Rey Johnston, giving the Idaho school a 24-13 lead. Tech battled back behind Cooper, cutting the deficit to seven points on six occasions in the second half, the last at 63-56. Morris countered with consecutive short jumpers, with Peoples and Tucker Tiddens adding triples, part of a backbreaking 14-2 run – as C of I closed the game on a 24-8 surge.
Morris made 13-of-17 field goals in the win, with Peoples scoring 19 and Johnston 18.
Dakota Reber added 21 points, on 8-of-9 shooting, in the loss for the Owls.
