Owls Lose Opener at The Master's, 13-12

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Oregon Tech had The Master's on the ropes through four innings, but the host Mustangs scored the final 11 runs of the afternoon to stun the Hustlin' Owls, 13-12, at Herwaldt Stadium.

Jacob Cook continued his torrid start for the Owls (5-2), going 2-for-5 with three RBI, including a 2-run single in a 7-run third, helping Tech build a 12-2 lead.

OIT spotted TMU (5-6) a 2-0 lead in the first after a Jack Drew 2-run single but answered in the second with a 5-run inning. Cal Pickhardt mashed a long 2-run homer, Logan Pontecorvo singled home a pair and Cook followed with an RBI single to right.

An inning later, the Owls batted around – as Cook and Andrew Sharp drove in a pair with singles, Nick Gimino had an RBI single and Tech capitalized on four walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball.

However – the Mustangs bullpen held the Owls to just one hit over the final six innings – giving TMU's offense a chance to rally. The hosts cut the lead to 12-6 in the fifth, while a Ty Beck 2-run homer in the sixth made it 12-9. In the eighth, an Emilio Morales 2-run single tied the score, with Beck scoring on a passed ball to bring home the go-ahead run.

Pontecorvo, Sharp and Logan Macy all finished with two hits for the Owls, with Beck going 2-for-3 with four runs scored and four RBI for the Mustangs.

The two teams continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader at 11 a.m.
