Lady Owls Drop 2-0 Decision at Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell University earned a penalty kick in each half and made the most of the opportunity, as the Beacons topped Oregon Tech, 2-0, in a Cascade Conference women's soccer match-up at Civic Park.

BU (4-6-3, 3-5-1 CCC) finished with a 21-14 edge in total shots, with Lady Owls keeper Elle Hillar making six saves during the run of play and one on a penalty, but her effort wasn't enough to earn the result.

Tech (4-8-3, 1-6-2) had a pair of quality chances early in the match, as a through-ball found a charging Ryane Mattox just three minutes in, while in the seventh minute, Olivia Mendoza put a quality header off a cross in the middle of the box – but both attempts were stopped by Beacons keeper Gabriella Montes, who made seven saves for the shutout win.

The hosts struck first in the 32nd minute, as off a rebound of a Elidia Cervantes Carlos shot that hit the crossbar, a Tech defender knocked a BU player down in the box during the chase for the rebound, earning the penalty. Carlos converted for the 1-0 lead.

OIT had three shots on frame in the second half, but the Beacons put the game out of reach with three minutes left. A similar foul gave Brielle Engle a chance from the spot, with her initial attempt stopped by Hilar, but Engle was able to collect the rebound and slot home the goal.

The physical match featured 30 fouls – 15 on both sides.

The Lady Owls will close out the season next weekend, hosting Warner Pacific on Friday for Senior Day and Walla Walla on Sunday.
