KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon converted 52% of their field goals and made 11-of-22 3-point attempts, as the Mountaineers snapped Oregon Tech's 6-game win streak, claiming an 87-74 victory over the Hustlin' Owls before a near capacity Pink Out crowd at Danny Miles Court.
Keilan Torkornoo had 21 points and 11 rebounds for EOU (11-4, 6-1 CCC), who pulled into a 3-way tie for first in the Cascade Conference standings with Tech and Southern Oregon.
The Owls (11-4, 6-1) could not overcome a 37% shooting night, including a 7-for-27 performance from long range.
The two teams battled back-and-forth for the first 18 minutes of the game, before Isaiah Jones canned a 28-foot 3-pointer, followed by a Torkornoo 3-point play to close out the half, as the visitors built a 38-29 halftime lead.
Torkornoo opened the second half on a personal 7-0 run, with his jump hook extending the EOU lead to 48-31. OIT never could find an extended run, getting within 74-65 on a
Grant Tull triple with three minutes left – but did not get closer.
Tull led the Owls with career-highs of 20 points and eight rebounds, with
Jackson Cooper and
Dakota Reber scoring 13.
Both Logan Orchard and Eamon Monahan scored 18 in the win for the Mounties.
OIT fell to 14-2 all-time in Pink Out games – with both losses coming at the hands of EOU.
Tech returns to action tomorrow afternoon, hosting College of Idaho at 5 p.m.
