COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Oregon Tech saw a 6-match win streak snapped, as Yaimaris Garcia nearly posted a triple-double, leading Walla Walla to a 25-10, 25-19, 29-27 victory in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams.
Garcia had 13 kills, 14 assists and eight of the Wolves (3-1, 1-0 CCC) 12 aces in the win.
WWU did not record a hitting error in Set 1, jumping out to a 14-4 lead in the dominant opener.
The Lady Owls (6-2, 0-1) found net defense in Set 2, recording four early blocks to grab a 10-9 lead. However, Garcia recorded consecutive aces to give the hosts a lead they would not surrender.
The Wolves looked to close out the match in Set 3, taking a 19-12 lead and holding match point at 24-20. OIT didn't back down, rattling off five points in a row, capped by an
Aleksen Thayer kill, to give the Owls set point. Garcia did the rest for WWU recording three straight kills, followed by an ace to end the contest.
Thayer had a team-high nine kills and four blocks for Tech, as the Owls middles combined for 14 of 27 kills.
Lucy Boyd added 19 assists and three blocks.
Paula Flores had 12 kills and Sahara Browning had 11 for WWU.
Tech closes out their road trip on Saturday at Lewis-Clark State.
