Lady Owls Drop Block Fest to C of I in Three Sets

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A three-set match that featured a combined 24 blocks saw Oregon Tech go toe-to-toe with No. 10-ranked College of Idaho, but the Lady Owls home opener was spoiled by the Yotes, 25-20, 31-29, 25-23.

Cierra Bohrn had seven kills and nine blocks for C of I (8-2, 2-1 CCC), as the visitors used late set runs to complete the sweep.

Tech (6-4, 0-3) battled throughout, tying Set 1 at 18-18 on a Savanna Sterck kill, but Bohrn and Cora Young combined on a pair of blocks, as the Yotes rattled off six straight points to grab the early advantage.

The Lady Owls had command of Set 2, bolting to a 13-4 lead on the strength of three kills from Steffini Goss. C of I answered with a 14-5 run to take a 22-20 lead, before Sterck and Lucy Boyd combined on a block at the net to square the score at 23-23 – the first of seven-straight tie scores – before the visitors got back-to-back points, capped by an Alexa Wheeler kill to grab the set win.

Aleksen Thayer had six kills and seven blocks for OIT, including three blocks in a four-point stretch of Set 3, giving the Owls a 20-18 edge. However, Bohrn was too much, converting a quick kill in the middle and adding a block to give C of I the lead, with Abigail Flerchinger ending the match with a cross-court winner.

Willow Jacobson led the Lady Owls with 10 kills, Sterck posted nine, with Goss recording a career-high six kills. Boyd ended with her second double-double of the season, logging 31 assists and 11 digs.

Mia Hutchinson led all players with 11 kills to pace C of I, with libero Liza Montalbo ending the evening with 26 digs.

OIT returns to action tomorrow afternoon, hosting top-ranked Eastern Oregon at 4 p.m.
