KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A dominant 90-minute performance lifted Oregon Tech to a 4-0 victory over Benedictine Mesa in the women's soccer season opener for both teams.
Four different players scored goals for the Lady Owls (1-0), as the hosts limited BenU to just two shots on the day – allowing 28 players to see the field.
The Redhawks (0-1) had the first shot of the day, a 30-yard free kick saved by Tech keeper
Elle Hillar, with the transfer waiting nearly 80 minutes before she saw another attempt by the Arizona side.
OIT struck first in the 13th minute – thanks to a hand ball in the box. Sophomore
Raeah Raymondo stepped to the penalty spot and slotted a low shot into the right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Tech doubled the lead just before the intermission, as
Jaylee Curran served a corner kick into the box and off a deflection, transfer
Olivia Mendoza drove a shot into the left corner of the net with one minute left in the period.
Claire Cowan made a nifty move in the 50th minute to extend the margin. The freshman collected a pass 20 yards from the frame, moved left, back right and served a low drive into the right corner of the net.
Naaliyah Robinson capped the scoring with a stellar strike, taking a feed from
Emma Glazebrook and launched a 20-yard left footed missile into the upper half of the net.
OIT finished the day with a 14-2 shot edge – led by three chances from Raymondo and a pair from both
Ryane Mattox and
Sydney Soskis.
Tech hits the road Saturday for a scrimmage at Cal Poly Humboldt.
