Hustlin' Owls Drop 6-1 Decision to LC State in CCC Opener

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Evan Canfield tossed seven shutout innings and Lewis-Clark State hit a pair of 2-run homers, as the Warriors topped Oregon Tech, 6-1, in Game 2 of the Cascade Conference Baseball Tournament at Tourmaline West Stadium.

LC (33-14) advances to the tournament semifinal, meeting host British Columbia, while the Owls face an elimination game tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Bushnell.

Canfield kept the Owls (36-13) at arms length throughout, holding the OIT offense to six hits – while stranding runners in scoring position in the first, sixth and seventh innings.

Tim Williams did his part for Tech, limiting the Warriors to five hits in six-plus innings – but surrendered a first inning 2-run blast from Charlie Updegrave and a seventh inning Noah Weintraub RBI double.

OIT broke up the shutout bid in the eighth on the 13th homer of the season by Julien Jones, but the LC bullpen was able to close out the game.

Jones was 2-for-3 and Ka'ala Tam finished 3-for-4 for the Owls, with Brandon Cabrera going 3-for-4 for LC – including an eighth inning 2-run homer.
