SALEM, Ore. –
Jayce Seavert went 4-for-6 with a homer and four RBI, helping Oregon Tech complete a 4-game sweep of Corban University, claiming 6-1 and 6-5 victories at Warrior Field.
The Lady Owls (24-4, 11-3 CCC) have won 15 of their last 16 games and close a 10-game road trip over a 9-day window on Wednesday with a match-up in Ashland at No. 1-ranked Southern Oregon.
Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning of Game 1, loading the bases with one out – with
Puakea Milbourne and
Addison Kachnik delivering RBI singles and
Sawyer Stenson lifted a sacrifice fly.
Seavert made it 4-0 in the fifth with her second home run of the year, with a
Malia Mick RBI single in a 2-run sixth putting the game away.
Kacie Schmidt worked five shutout innings for the victory for her 11th win of the year, striking out four. Both Kachnik and Seavert had two hits in the win.
Game 2 was played in a downpour, with the game called at the conclusion of a wild fifth inning.
The Owls had opportunities throughout to break the game wide open – but stranded 12 runners, including at least one runner in scoring position in all five innings.
Tech scored single runs in the first four innings – getting a
Jazmine Macias RBI single in the first, a Seavert sacrifice fly in the second, a
Marla Goodspeed RBI single in the third and a
Zoe Allen bases loaded walk in the fourth.
OIT extended the lead to 6-1 in the fifth – with Seavert lining an RBI single – but the Warriors (1-28, 1-14) capitalized on the conditions in the bottom of the inning. Corban loaded the bases with no outs on an infield single, a walk and hit-by-pitch – cutting the margin to 6-3 on a Peyton Foreman 2-run double. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly pulled the hosts within a run, but
Carli Moore struck out Hannah Griffith to end the threat – earning a save.
Goodspeed and Mick were 2-for-3 and Seavert added two hits in the win.
