KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Dominant pitching performances from
Kacie Schmidt and
Carli Moore, coupled with four RBI from
Jayce Seavert and four hits and four stolen bases from
Nita Cook led Oregon Tech to a doubleheader sweep of Bushnell at frigid Stilwell Stadium.
The No. 2-ranked Lady Owls (15-3, 6-2 CCC) extended a win streak against the Beacons to 31-games with the 5-1 and 6-2 decisions – scoring five runs in the first two innings of both games.
Schmidt handcuffed the Beacons (6-15, 1-10) in the opener, limiting the Eugene school to two hits, striking out a season-high 11. Riley Peeler lined a third inning RBI double to plate the visitor's lone run – but at that point, Tech held a 5-0 lead.
OIT opened the scoring in the first, as Cook walked, stole second and scored on a Beacons fielding error.
An inning later, the Owls broke the game open. Singles by
Malia Mick and Cook were followed by a
Gina Allen RBI single. Seavert extended the lead with a double off the wall in left-center to plate two and
Sawyer Stenson made it 5-0 with an RBI single to left.
Stenson and Mick had the lone multi-hit games in the opener, each going 2-3.
In Game 2, Tech strung together four hits to start the first inning – including back-to-back RBI doubles from Allen and Seavert – with an
Addison Kachnik RBI single pushing the lead to 4-0.
Seavert singled home a run in the second to make it 5-0, while in the fourth, Cook led off with a triple and scored on an Allen base hit.
Moore was outstanding, taking a shutout into the seventh inning – striking out eight. The Beacons were able to score two runs in the seventh – as Taylor Kenworthy tripled home a run and scored on a squeeze bunt – but OIT turned a double play to end the contest.
Cook was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI, with Allen, Seavert and Kachnik each recording two hits.
The two teams close out the weekend series on Saturday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
